Fujiwara no Takaie
Fujiwara no Takaie (979–1044) was a court noble of the mid-Heian period, the fourth son of the regent Fujiwara no Michitaka. After the decline of his branch of the Fujiwara family, he was posted to Kyushu as deputy governor-general of Dazaifu. In 1019, when an armed group known as the Toi raided Tsushima and Iki and advanced on northern Kyushu, Takaie rallied local warrior bands and led the defense that drove them off — the event known as the Toi invasion. Though a court aristocrat by background, he is remembered for taking direct command of Kyushu's warriors in the field.
