Emperor Kotoku
Emperor Kotoku (596–654) was the 36th emperor of Japan during the Asuka period. He ascended the throne in 645 following the Isshi Incident, in which he and Prince Naka no Oe (later Emperor Tenji) overthrew the Soga clan, and went on to carry out the sweeping political reforms known as the Taika Reform. He is also known for moving the capital from Asuka to Naniwa (present-day Osaka) and building the Naniwa Nagara-Toyosaki Palace.
