Tokugawa Ieyasu
Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543–1616) was a warlord from Mikawa province and the first Seii Taishōgun of the Edo shogunate. After periods of alliance and subordination to Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he built up his power and won a decisive victory at the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. Becoming Seii Taishōgun in 1603, he laid the foundations of the Edo shogunate, which would last for roughly 260 years. Nagoya Castle was built at his order after he became shogun, as a base for Tokugawa control of Owari province.
